Lotte Anker > tenor & soprano saxophone
Marc Ducret > Guitar
Peter Friis Nielsen > electric bass
Stefan Pasborg > drums

Focusing on collectively intense improvising, the cream trio of experimental Danish jazz understands also compositional structures. There is awareness of rock and funk in the music, but it is free to go anywhere.

They have worked together since 2000 with now and like the company of able guests: Jacob Riis, electronics – Kasper Tranberg, cornet – Jacob Anderskov, rhodes – Marc Ducret, guitar ( France ) – Herb Robertson, trumpet ( USA ) – Michael Formanek, bass ( USA ) – Olga Maguires, piano ( Poland ).

But after having played a number of succesful concerts with the renowned French guitarist, Marc Ducret, they decided to go on as a quartet: ICTUS! This foursome blends acoustic and electric instrumentation in equal measures.

One of these concerts in quartet with marc Ducret was recorded in Copenhagen Jazzhouse in June 2004, and the result can be heard on the CD released by the Danish label ILK ( http://ilkmusic.com) in November 2004 at the occasion of the first French tour of the band. See press release in French .

Excelling on tenor and soprano, Lotte Anker is both a master improviser and a prolific composer. She leads the 12 piece Copenhagen Art Ensemble and her own trio, which includes Marilyn Crispell and Gerald Cleaver. Being and Infinite Blueness are 2 recent albums from Lotte.

His unique style of playing the electric bass has led Peter Friis-Nielsen to many interesting bands and recordings, for instance, with Evan Parker, Peter Brötzmann, Phil Minton and Louis Moholo, not to mention the Danish experimental scene. ”Friis Nielsen is crawling all over his axe, rumbling and punching away, providing a sort of constant rolling counterpoint”. This quotation of Nils Jacobson (picked in his review for All About Jazz of the record “Medicina” by Brötzmann/Friis Nielsen/Uuskyla) expresses the exact feeling you get when listening to this bass guitar player coming from another planet.

During the last years Stefan Pasborg has grown into one of the hottest drummers of Danish jazz. Also a drum teacher, he has worked live and in the studio with Herb Robertson, Jesper Zeuthen and the free veteran John Tchicai, among others. He leads Toxikum together with the Lithuanian saxist Liudas Mockunas and was voted ”The New Jazz Name of 2004” in Denmark .
