ro-futuristic, curiously swinging, alternative jazz from the North
Mikko Innanen & Innkvisitio features Mikko Innanen, Fredrik Ljungkvist and/or Daniel Erdmann on saxophones, Seppo Kantonen on keyboards and Joonas Riippa on drums. They play Innanen´s stylistically overwhelming compositions, reaching out for a sound that is perhaps more universal than it is Finnish. They are going back in time to create an alternative sound of the present. Awkward grooves, heavy swing, far-out excursions in sonic junkyards and hyper-speed interaction between the musicians are all present in the musical adventures of the group.
During their first five years of existence, Mikko Innanen & Innkvisitio have toured in Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany and France, performing at such prestigious festivals as Moers Festival (GER), Nattjazz, Bergen (NOR), Reims Jazz Festival (FR), Europa Jazz, Le Mans (FR), Copenhagen Jazz Festival (DK), Umeå Jazz Festival (SWE), Rencontres D’Jazz, Nevers (FR), JazzyColors, Paris (FR), Tampere Jazz Happening (FIN) and Vossa Jazz (FIN).
The debut-CD of Mikko Innanen & Innkvisitio PAA-DA-PAP was released by TUM Records in May 2007. They have recorded their second album in November 2009. It will be released in October 2009 by TUM Records.
