Østergaard Art Quartet is a collaboration between four unique musicians from three
countries. With an unusual combination of instruments and a strong will to look
beyond predefined musical roles, they create playful music in a improvised universe of
sound. Dissonant and wild grooves, mixed with the most sincere, almost romantic
harmonies. It is an intense meeting of love somewhere between the motorways of Europe
and the Nordic tundra.

Together they represent Østergaard Art Quartet – one of the most exciting groups on the
Nordic and European music scene today.
In November 2011 their first album Stories from the Village was released on the Swedish
label BoogiePost Recordings, gaining a lot of attention from the media.

“…draws you into a sound-universe with peculiar combinations of light and darkness, peace and unrest, gentleness and mystery, where you wish to stay.“ (Bjarne Søltoft, Jazznytt, NO)

“With optimal open listening and consciousness the group produces tonal patterns of soft, harmonic sounds and sharp dissonans, which occasionally creates intriguing soundscapes, occasionally forming captivating magic narratives.” (Bjarne Søltoft, Jazznytt, Norway)

“… parallels to Shamans, which play themselves into trance is not too far-fetched (…) you can´t take this kind of music for granted in Stockholm, Copenhagen or Paris. Barely enough in New York or Vancouver. But you do in Alvesta.“ (Magnus Nilsson, Smålandsposten, Sverige)

“Admirable and liberating when musicians are able, to such an extent, to be detached from
conventions and together create european avantgarde art-music (…) It´s an intense experience with both melody and chaos being present.” (Niels Overgaard, Jazznyt DK)
