Bound by a musical friendship spanning more than twenty years, pianist Paul Brousseau and saxophonist Matthieu Metzger have chosen to return to the source of their artistic partnership and perform as an acoustic duo. They are heading to an extended tour in May put together by Vapaat äänet. Their journey of 14 concerts starts in Finland from 3 to 5 May, continues in Estonia on 7- 8 May and reaches Latvia on 9 May where the tour ends on 17 May.
Paul Brousseau and Mathieu Metzger are two virtuoso and erudite artists who approach their duo as true painters of sound. Fueled by a telepathic rapport, they craft impressionistic miniatures carried by the spellbinding breath of the saxophone and the crystalline notes of the piano. Their duo moves freely and without hierarchy between jazz, classical music, contemporary music, folk… keeping the field open to inspired improvisations. They released their first album “Source” in 2017 on Emouvance Records. Their second record “Source vol. II” was released digitally in 2023.
Throughout their careers, rich with diverse experiences, Brousseau and Metzger have played in Le sens de la marche, the large ensemble led by guitarist Marc Ducret; both have been part of groups led by clarinettist Louis Sclavis; and both have been members of the Orchestre National de Jazz, at different times.
